I have a confession to make. I have a love affair going on with Arizona. Maybe it's because the terrain is so vastly different to what I'm used to in Toronto. Maybe it's how kind and courteous the locals are. I can say one thing for certain - it's DEFINITELY connected to the crazy amount of cacti native to the land. Arizona is cactus heaven and I couldn't have been more excited to photograph an engagement session in a state that I've fallen in love with!
Ellen, Eric & I spent two days road tripping through northern Arizona this past January while shooting engagement photos. When we weren't oohing and aahing over the landscape at every turn, the hours in the car were spent talking about our lives, amazing podcasts (thanks for getting me hooked onto How I Built This with Guy Raz!), Eric's nervousness regarding the dog they were about to foster and mine and Ellen's mutual love for all things cacti. It was so special getting to spend a solid amount of time with these two before their wedding day!
The accessibility to nature in Arizona is something that I really appreciate - wherever you turn, there seems to be a great hiking trail available. We definitely took advantage of that. Day one was spent exploring the rugged and desert terrain of Page, Arizona. A hidden slot canyon that required a 1.5 km hike into the middle of nowhere and Horseshoe Bend were the main attractions. The second day was just as thrilling as we spent the day in one of my new favourite places - the Flintstones' town of Bedrock - I mean, Sedona. Hiking the Devil's Bridge Trail and checking out crystal shops during the day while photographing more engagement photos at sunset with Cathedral Rock in the background. Our earth is such a wonder to me. I am amazed by its beauty and Arizona is proof of its magic!
