Portraits at an Earthship pyramid in Taos, New Mexico

Let me take you on a journey to one of my favourite places in the world - Taos, New Mexico. Travelling to Taos has felt almost like a pilgrimage for me in the last couple of years, having been there 5 times already. On my latest trip there, I had the honour of photographing Scarlet, a dancer whose radiance shines when she moves. We chose a secret location that was absolutely magical - a pyramid built in one of the Earthship communities in Taos.

Have you heard of Earthships before? Pioneered by Michael Reynolds, they’re a testament to sustainable living and architectural innovation. I can go on and on about them as it’s been my dream to build my own Earthship in Ontario and hopefully one day I’ll make that happen! I feel super lucky that I’ve been able to take introductory classes and spend time learning about them and living an Earthship too. It’s fascinating - I highly recommend learning more about them.

The secret pyramid, a hidden gem within this community, provided the perfect inspirational backdrop for portraits of Scarlet. Sunsets in Taos are unbeatable so during golden hour we played around with movement, composition and connecting to different emotions within ourselves. It was the perfect opportunity to get creative and I’m excited to share these photos with you now :)
